Apulia’s treasure; “a unique masterpiece of medieval military architecture”; “the most fascinating castle built by Frederick II”; protected as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO; is depicted on the reverse of the Italian issue 1 euro cent coin; has octagonal plan; was inspiration for Umbert Eco’s novel “The name of the rose” “Aedificium”(known as an old fortress), which was a central plot of the novel.
Castel del Monte is in Apulia (heel of Italy), near Andria and Trani. Last Friday we have visited Trani and then we decided to go to Castel del Monte too. It was late evening and it was raining a little bit. We were inside this fascinating building as a last visitors and after this we took some pictures before the darkness came.
We enjoyed this trip to this beautiful castello and if you will be in Apulia I really recommend you to visit it 🙂 Or maybe you have been here once? If yes, did you like it?
